North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently oversaw a significant military drill that showcased the country’s latest advancements in armored warfare. The exercise, conducted at the Pyongyang Training Base No. 60 under the Capital City Defence Corps of the Korean People’s Army, featured new main battle tanks equipped with an “active protection system.” According to state media, the drill demonstrated the tank’s capabilities and highlighted its potential to revolutionize North Korea’s ground forces.
During the event, Kim emphasized the importance of equipping ground troops with these advanced tanks, calling them “superior” and “unequaled in the world” in terms of striking power, mobility, and self-defense capacity. He stated, “Our army will be equipped with such most powerful tanks,” signaling a strategic shift toward modernizing the military.
Key Features of the New Main Battle Tank
The drill included various tests to evaluate the new main battle tank’s active protection system. During the exercises, the tank successfully intercepted 100% of anti-tank missiles and drones attacking from different positions and directions.
