Ray J faces legal battle after American Express sues over $78K debt

Legal Troubles Mount for Ray J

American Express has filed a lawsuit against Ray J, whose real name is William Ray Norwood Jr., for breach of contract. The credit card company is seeking payment for an unpaid balance of $78,704.56, according to a recent complaint submitted to the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County. The documents specifically mention Rajun Cajun Inc., a business associated with Ray J, and state that payments on the account stopped around October 2024.

This legal action comes after another case filed by American Express in November 2025 against Ray J and his company, Tronix Network. In that instance, the credit company was seeking $139,849.85 in unpaid bills. According to TMZ, the allegations in that case claimed that payments had ceased as early as May 2025.

Criminal Charges and Public Outcry

In addition to these civil lawsuits, Ray J has faced criminal scrutiny due to his personal conduct. On November 27, 2025, he was arrested following a Thanksgiving livestream argument with his estranged wife, Princess Love. During the broadcast, Ray J began by stating he was having “the worst Thanksgiving in the f—ing world.” He was later accused of pulling a firearm on his wife during the stream. As a result, he was booked into a Los Angeles jail and charged with making a criminal threat.

Ray J was released the same day after posting a $50,000 bail. However, video footage of the incident quickly went viral on social media, showing the singer accusing his ex-wife and others of wanting to “drive drunk.” This event added to the growing public attention surrounding Ray J’s behavior.

Ongoing Legal Disputes with the Kardashians

At the same time, Ray J is involved in a complex legal battle with Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner. The dispute escalated after Ray J made public claims that the mother-daughter duo was under federal investigation. In response, attorney Alex Spiro stated in October 2025 that the “false and serious allegation” forced the Kardashians to file a defamation claim.

Ray J responded in November 2025 with a counterclaim, alleging that Kardashian and Jenner breached a $6 million settlement related to their 2003 sex tape. He claimed they violated the agreement by discussing the footage again on their reality series, ‘The Kardashians.’

The 45-year-old singer maintains that the original 2007 release of the tape was a consensual marketing strategy overseen by Jenner herself. However, on March 10, 2026, both Kardashian and Jenner filed formal court declarations in Los Angeles denying all of Ray J’s allegations, including the claims of a federal probe and his version of the tape’s distribution.

“His claim that I had a plan with my mother and others to release a sex tape, defraud the public and file a ‘fake’ lawsuit against the porn company that released it to ‘create buzz’ is a lie,” Kardashian said, as reported by Mirror.

“As a mother, the notion that I orchestrated or produced sex tapes involving my daughter, or was in any way involved in the creation or distribution of any sex tapes, is not only entirely untrue but deeply offensive and harmful and has haunted me for decades,” Jenner added.

Personal Life and Legal Challenges

Ray J’s legal troubles continue to intersect with his personal life. His estranged wife, Princess Love, recently changed a protective order against him after revealing that he has months to live. This development has further complicated the already tense relationship between the two.

Throughout these challenges, Ray J remains at the center of multiple legal battles, both civil and criminal, which have drawn significant public attention. As the cases unfold, the outcomes could have lasting implications for his career and personal life.
