Royal Caribbean Halts Five-Month Cruises on Iconic Ship

Royal Caribbean Cancels Summer 2027 Cruises on Freedom of the Seas

Royal Caribbean has made a significant change to its schedule by canceling over 20 cruises on the Freedom of the Seas, impacting a large portion of its summer 2027 sailing season. These cancellations affect four-, five-, and nine-night voyages from Miami, spanning from May through September 2027. The ship was originally scheduled to offer a variety of Caribbean and The Bahamas itineraries during this time.

The cruise line explained that these changes are part of an ongoing itinerary planning process, which sometimes requires flexibility due to scheduling, port agreements, or operational needs. As a result, the Freedom of the Seas will be redeployed for the Summer 2027 season.

Passenger Options and Refunds

Royal Caribbean is offering affected passengers several options. The cruise line will automatically move impacted travelers to alternative cruise options. If the fare on the new voyage is higher, passengers will not be charged the difference. However, if the alternative cruise is cheaper, the fare will be reduced accordingly.

Passengers who prefer not to take an alternative cruise can receive full refunds for their original booking, including any additional purchases such as onboard credits or shore excursions.

Previous Cancellations and Future Plans

This is not the first time that Royal Caribbean has canceled cruises on the Freedom of the Seas. In the past, the cruise line reworked Caribbean itineraries, leading to the cancellation of select fall 2026 sailings. These changes introduced longer, nine-night southern Caribbean itineraries from Miami, which marked a shift from the ship’s usual four- and five-night trips.

While the exact new itineraries for the 2027 season have not been revealed, it’s possible that the ship could be deployed from a different departure port. Ship redeployments often occur due to demand or operational reasons. However, the Freedom of the Seas is still expected to return to Miami in October 2027, offering a range of Caribbean cruises again.

About the Freedom of the Seas

As a fan-favorite Freedom Class ship, the Freedom of the Seas can accommodate nearly 4,000 passengers. It features a variety of attractions, including The Perfect Storm duo of waterslides, a resort-style Caribbean pool deck, Splashaway Bay kids’ aqua park, and popular specialty dining options like Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen, Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, and Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade.

In addition to the deployment update for the Freedom of the Seas, Royal Caribbean may also introduce a new ship to Miami in the summer of 2027. The Icon of the Seas, currently based in Miami, is set to move to Galveston, Texas in August 2027. This move could make way for the launch of the fourth Icon Class ship from Miami, although this has not yet been officially confirmed by the cruise line.
