Timothee Chalamet Confronts War and Bloodshed in Dune: Part Three Trailer
Timothee Chalamet is set to reprise his role as Paul Atreides in the upcoming film Dune: Part Three, which promises to be a visually stunning and emotionally charged conclusion to the sci-fi saga. The first-look trailer, released by Warner Bros, offers a glimpse into the intergalactic conflicts and intense battles that will define this final installment of the franchise.
The film is set 17 years after the events of the second movie, following the aftermath of Atreides’ rise as the galactic emperor. The trailer opens with Chalamet’s character in a tender moment with his partner, Chani, played by Zendaya. Their conversation hints at the future of their relationship, as they discuss what they would name their child. Chani asks, “If we have a girl, what would we name her?” Paul responds with the Fremen name Ghanima, meaning “spoils of war,” and adds, “She would need to be strong like her mother.” If they have a boy, Chani suggests naming him Leto, in honor of his grandfather’s wisdom.
The scene transitions to a shot of a baby’s head before cutting to Paul in full battle armor, wielding a sword. His voiceover states, “War feeds on itself.” The trailer then shows Paul in a conversation with his mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), as he reflects on the consequences of his actions: “The more I fight, the more enemies fight back.”
Chanting echoes in the background as clips reveal British actress Florence Pugh reprising her role as Princess Irulan, removing the hood of her cloak. Another clip features Robert Pattinson as Scytale, a new character introduced in the film. Described as someone who wants to dethrone Atreides, Pattinson’s character appears menacing, sporting a platinum blond buzzcut.
As the chanting intensifies, the trailer shifts to scenes of violence and chaos. Chalamet’s voice whispers, “I’m doing the best I can to protect my family.” The chanting stops, and Paul returns to a conversation with Lady Jessica, asking, “How did father do it?” She replies, “Your father never started a war.”
The trailer showcases more intense battle sequences, including a glimpse of Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia, Paul’s sister. US actor Jason Momoa makes an appearance as Hayt, a resurrection of his character Duncan Idaho from the first film. Spanish actor Javier Bardem also returns as Stilgar, a key figure among the Fremen.
In one dramatic moment, Paul climbs to the top of a plinth in front of a crowd, delivering a powerful voiceover: “I’m not afraid to die. But I must not die, yet.” The trailer concludes with a tense scene of Chani running toward an unseen adversary, before fading to black.
Throughout the trailer, text on screen reads: “This December, experience the epic conclusion of the Dune trilogy.”
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Part Three is the third film in the franchise based on Frank Herbert’s iconic 1960s sci-fi novel series. The film is set to debut in cinemas across the UK on December 18, marking the end of an epic journey for fans of the saga.
